Judy Major

I’m running for Madison County Commissioner because:

I believe it’s time for a change in our county’s governing body, time for fresh ideas, a new way of doing business, more openness and opportunities for the public to be included in decisions that affect us all and time for the addition of a woman’s perspective on the board. Those who know me would describe me as “a champion for the environment and the natural beauty of our mountains; for families, especially women, young children and the elderly; for our public schools; for our hard-working county employees and for the many local nonprofits that serve our financially-challenged neighbors.”

Raised on my family’s generations-old farm in rural Illinois, I have called the Forks of Ivy community my home since 1978. In those early years, I worked throughout the county with the Hot Springs Health Program and the Madison County Health Department and taught health classes in all our schools. I’m a former high school teacher, Peace Corps volunteer, Public Health worker, birth companion and founder of WNC’s only non-profit, midwife-staffed birth center. Serving others has been, and will always be, a driving force in my life.

I look forward to meeting you between now and November and hope I’ll have your support on election day.
